UPCOMING EVENTS

YEAR 2006-7

  • The Traveling Exhibition Service (TES) will expand its program of exhibitions and film shows internationally, starting with Sri Lanka, the host country of the artistic marvels presented in exhibitions and related activities of TES.

  • Daya Hewapathirane will be visiting Sri Lanka in 2006-7 for the public presentation of the TES exhibition and documentary film in several important venues in Sri Lanka.

  • Daya Hewapathirane will be visiting Australia in November 2006 for the public presentation of the TES documentary film.

  • During his visit to Sri Lanka, formal and informal meetings will be held with a wide range of prominent visual artists of Sri Lanka in order to develop closer links with them and local organizations actively involved in research and promotion of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist art.

  • A determined effort will be made to develop joint projects for the mutual benefit of visual artists and curators of both countries, focused on research and promotional work, including conservation initiatives, pertaining to Buddhist art and related historic sites in the country.

  • Exploring remote historic sites in view of expanding TES photo inventory will form a major activity in the Sri Lanka visit. This will incorporate extensive field investigations, in addition to reviews on recent work on different aspects of Buddhist art and historic sites containing art work.

  • Initial plans have been made to produce our second documentary film focused on a specific theme, designed in a manner that would capture highlights of the visual cultural heritage of the country. It is proposed to make this film with both English and Sinhela narrations, using local talent and expertise.

  • A series of talks will be held at universities and government agencies dealing with cultural heritage and arts. There will be introductory talks before the presentation of the documentary film.

  • During the 2007-8 period, the TES exhibition will be held in Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta and in Vancouver British Columbia
